One corner, no shots on target and no attacking effort at all from a spineless,...
– Alan Tyers, Daily Telegraph, reporting on the Tottenham-Blackburn match that I went to on the 29th April. I hear you Alan. Even as a Spurs fan, Blackburn were so woeful that I had a mind to ask for half of my money back. More on that story later!

Banksy Street Art: Grandmother comes forward as... →
LONDON — At a press conference Tuesday, 89-year-old Rose Biggin, a grandmother from the Camden Town neighborhood of North London, announced that she was in fact the internationally renowned graffiti artist known only as Banksy. “Those drawings? Oh, yes, those are mine,” said the diminutive…
Bahahahaha. Classic.

Bloody Sunday vs Truth Tuesday
Queueing to get into the House of Commons usually takes about five minutes, if that. Yesterday, it was taking surprisingly longer. Even after all the security checks (which involved being lightly patted down), I was told it would take me quite some time to actually get to the viewing chamber.
But surely there’s nothing major going on, I thought: surely it’s just a matter of a few...

Obamarama answered my question!
This is therefore something to be happy about :-)
In case you do not know of it, Obamarama is brilliant page on Tumblr that puts captions to photos of Barack Obama, and sometimes Joe Biden (Vice-President) and Tim Geithner. Who, it turns out, is the current United States Secretary of the Treasury.
I didn’t know this, so I asked Obamarama what exactly it is Tim Geithner does, and to what...

Broken Laws
jeniaalexandra:
I feel very sad for David Laws today, what a great shame that in this country, still, someone is so deeply afraid of being open about their sexuality. And as this story shows, at the expense of a great deal of talent that our country has now unfortunately lost.

Life Lessons
Oh dear me, I have much to learn about women. Fortunately, a combination of talking to them, reading about them, and actually treating like human beings is helping.
But I am still someway behind, as http://jezebel.com illustrates. Not that I intentionally treat women like objects, you understand. But the temptation to be a “player”, as encouraged by the media, is occasionally...

Rules for Women During the World Cup
afootballreport:
By Alison Dennehy, writing from Reading, England
After scrolling through facebook avoiding any type of revision possible I stumbled upon a group named “Rules for women during the world cup” and let’s just say men really don’t want us around for it. My favourite rule was number 7.
You are welcome to sit with me to watch one game and you can talk to me during half-time but only...

Eurovision Madness - Part Five
Armenia - My apricot stones bring all the votes to the yard, and they’re like, just look
Germany - Shocking and sounding like Kate Nash. That explains it.
Portugal - Nope.
Israel - Oho dear me no. Get back to Sixth Form, bucko.
Denmark - Every Breath You Take… I’m reminded that the Police did a better song.
Norway Host Man! You are awesome. But where do you get…...

Eurovision Madness - Part Four
Iceland - Did the volcano make your dress, ma’am?
Ukraine - Is Eurovision supposed to be dark? All is not well in Kiev…
France - OH MY WORD SO FRENCH. And shameless randy to boot: grinding, spanking, clothes off, you name it. Good for bopping to though. It’ll do better than France at the World Cup, you’d imagine.
Romania - I want that duel piano. WANT WANT WANT. Dear me...

Eurovision Madness - Part Three
Greece - OPA OPA OPA. Glow-in-the-dark drums that shoot fireworks? No wonder their finances are in a mess… “You spent half our budget on the friggin’ song!”
United Kingdom - Cliff Richard, we’ve finally managed to clone you! And call you Josh Dubovie. ”Well, that sounds good to me”.
Graham Norton “I’m being such a kiss-ass”. For some...

Eurovision Madness - Part II
Bosnia and Herzegovina - That filled none of the Eurovision cliches! DEAR SIR…
Belgium - Waistcoat of win. And he is relatively cute, as they say. Tom Dice, take a bow for performing solo. The crowd be loving him.
Serbia - THAT THING’S A GUY?!? Shameless Balkan plugging ahoy…
“Nadia is back for no good reason” - Graham Norton. It’s peanut butter zinger time!

Eurovision Madness, Part One
Azerbaijan - Drip Drop. Frankly, I prefer Drip Drip Drop Little April Shower from Bambi.
Spain - Fan on the stage! And he blended in perfectly! Also, white man afros.
Norway - My Heart Is Yours. And look, I put copious amounts of cheese on it!
Moldova - MAD GYRATING SAXOPHONISTS WITH CRAZY VIOLINISTS
Cyprus - Are you sure that was Cyprus? It seemed slightly Celtic. Copyright needed, methinks.

Who is Pierre Bourdieu?
Following up from Kathryn’s post on art degrees, I have been reading a bit more about Pierre Bourdieu: who, I must confess, I had never heard of before. Basically, he’s a French sociologist who died in 2002, but he became rather famous/notorious/confusing in the 90s for writing lots of different stuff about society; mainly stuff to do with culture. He also developed a habit of taking...

Kathryn Nichols Illustration: Some thoughts about... →
It seems that there is a common belief among many ‘academic’ students that art degrees aren’t real degrees. I have become aware that there are some rather ill informed Facebook groups popping up believing that Falmouth (art) students don’t do any work and that art degrees are easy. On my course we…
Alas, I am that offending graduating history student!
It is quite a serious problem that...

I like this design. It’s annoying I haven’t worked out how to copy an image like this so you can all see it, but ah well.

Northern Ireland and the UUP
Uh-oh. The Tories are trying desperately hard to stay on track, but every week seems to bring a new wobble. Last week it was the row over Lord Ashcroft: this week Cameron was unable to stop the Conservative-supporting Ulster Unionisty Party (UUP) voting against the completion of devolution in Northern Ireland. Not that it stopped the motion passing, but stilll. DOWNER.
Personally, I think the...
Results so far
So, just a few sketchy results so far:
You’re more likely to know your MP if they’re Conservative (60%); but not if they’re Labour (25%). Lib Dems it’s dead on 50-50. Hmm. Out of 17 people (so far), only 8 knew who their MPs were.
MORE NEWS AS IT HAPPENS
DUDES
MP's and my friends
So er, yeah. Young people knowing who their MPs are. It happens sometimes! But do you know YOUR Member of Parliament?
Course, if you live the constituency of Witney, it’s pretty easy.
But not everyone has a big name representing them in Parliament. It’s understandable if you live in Norwich but don’t know that your MP’s Chloe Smith: she’s only been there for 8...
